SYSTEM CONFIGURATION & INSTALLATION
Lets we talk about what is the SYSTEM Configuration and how to Install TALLY.ERP9.
To install Tally.ERP 9 the user needs to have administrator rights (Create, Write, Update, Modify and Delete permissions). Multilingual users must ensure that the operating system supports multiple languages. The Hardware requirements and Operating system required for a Client-Server and a standalone computer are as described below:

Hardware Requirements for Tally.ERP9

Processor
Intel Pentium IV or above and equivalent
Memory
256 MB
Recommended is 512 MB RAM or more
Free Hard Disk Space
75MB Minimum (Excluding data)
Monitor Resolution
800 x 600
Recommended 1024 x 768 or Higher

Operating System required for 

Single User
Microsoft Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/2003/2008/XP/Vista
Multi-User
The Tally License Server can be installed only on Windows NT/2000/2003/XP/Vista

You can install Tally.ERP 9 using one of the following methods:

Installing Tally.ERP 9 – Single User

Method 1: SINGLE USER

  • Double click the install.exe icon on the CD.

Method 2:

  • Click START from Windows.
  • Select RUN.
  • TYPE <CD drive>:INSTALL.
  • Press ENTER.
With Tally.ERP 9 Silver do not install License Server.
To install Tally.ERP 9, you need to have administrator rights (to create, write, update, modify and delete) the Application, Data, Configuration and Language directory for Windows NT/ 2000/ XP/ 2003/ Vista operating systems.
Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to proceed with the installation of Tally.ERP 9.
1. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup Wizard screen is displayed as shown.
2. Click Next to continue with the installation
3. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup screen appears
4. Check Single User to install Tally.ERP 9 Single User/Silver Edition on your computer.
5. Click Next

6. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup screen appears
6.1 In the Programs section check select Tally.ERP 9.
6.2 In the Tally.ERP 9 Setup section, you can accept the default directories as shown or click on the buttons provided next to the respective text boxes to change the path of Application Directory, Data Directory, Configuration Directory, Language Directory and License Directory.
6.2.1  Application Directory – The program files reside in this directory.
6.2.2 Data Directory – by default Tally.ERP 9 data is stored in C:Tally.ERP 9Data or C:UsersPublicTally.ERP9Data. During the installation process, the wizard detects and retains the data path of previously installed version of Tally.ERP 9.
6.2.3 Configuration Directory – by default the configuration files reside in the application directory.
6.2.4 Language Directory – by default the Language files with the extension .dct are stored in the application directory.
6.2.5 License Directory – by default the license file with extenstion .lic resides in this directory.

Ensure that an earlier version of Tally.ERP 9 Silver is activated. Enter  the path of the license file in License Directory. This enables you to run multiple instances of Tally.ERP 9 Silver on the same computer using a single license file. 

7. Click Next.

8. In the Country/Language Selection screen, check Install Operating System Language Support to install Tally.ERP 9 with multi-lingual support.
Note: To use Tally.ERP 9 in English only, un-check Install Operating Systems Language Support
9. By default, India/SAARC appears in the Country Selection. Select Others if you are not residing in India or any of the SAARC countries.
10. Click Install.
11. The Setup Status screen is displayed as shown.
Note: Incase you click Cancel or do not have the operating system CD, The language support will not be available.
You will be prompted for the language support files in the Files needed screen, insert operating systems CD in the drive or click Browse and select the i386 folder where the required language support files reside on your computer.
Click OK to install Language Support.
12. In the installer screen click Finish to complete Tally.ERP 9 Setup. 
13. Click Finish to complete Tally.ERP 9 Silver Installation.
To start the Tally.ERP 9 application, double click the Tally.ERP 9 icon on the desktop.
Note: While installing Tally.ERP 9 Silver (Single User), ensure that you have not checked My License Server is running at and do not provide the IP Address or the Name of the Server and the Port Number.  

Installing Tally.ERP 9 – Multi User (Server)

You can install Tally.ERP 9 using one of the following methods.

Method 1:

  • Double click install.exe icon on the CD.

Method 2:

  • Click START from Windows.
  • Select RUN.
  • TYPE <CD drive>:INSTALL.
  • Press ENTER .
Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to proceed with the installation of Tally.ERP 9.
1. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup Wizard screen is displayed as shown.


  1. Click Next to continue.
  2. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup screen appears.

  3. In the Version section
          Select Multi-User
          Select Server Machine

To install License Service only uncheck the option Tally.ERP 9.
  1. Click Next
  2. In the Tally License Server Configuration section accept the default License Server Directory,  Port number and License Directory or specify the License Server Directory,   Port and License Directory of your choice.
To install the License Server 6.0 for more than one Tally product check Do you want to use Common License Server for more than one Tally product?

  1. Click Install
  2. On detecting earlier version(s) of License Server installed on your computer. The installer displays the License Server(s) installed.
Check the required version(s) of license server that needs to be uninstalled.

10. Click Install
11. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup screen is displayed as shown
11.1 In the Tally.ERP 9 Configuration section, accept the default directories as shown or click on the buttons provided next to the respective text boxes to change the path of Application Directory, Data Directory, Configuration Directory, Language Directory and License Directory.
11.2.1  Application Directory – The program files reside in this directory.
11.2.2 Data Directory – by default Tally.ERP 9 data is stored in C:Tally.ERP 9Data or C:UsersPublicTally.ERP9Data. During the installation process, the wizard detects and retains the data path of previously installed version of Tally.ERP 9.
11.2.3 Configuration Directory – by default the configuration files reside in the application directory.
11.2.4 Language Directory – by default the Language files with the extension .dct are stored in the application directory.
11.2.5 License Directory – by default the license file with extenstion .lic resides in this directory.
  1. Click Next
  2. In the Country/Language Selection screen, check Install Operating System Language Support to install Tally.ERP 9 with multi-lingual support.

Note: To use Tally.ERP 9 in English only, un-check Install Operating Systems Language Support

  1. By default, India/SAARC appears in the Country Selection. Select Others if you are not residing in India or any of the SAARC countries.
Note: To use Tally.ERP 9 in English only, uncheck Install Operating Systems Language Support In Country Selection choose India/SAARC, if you are residing in India or SAARC countries, else choose Others
15. Click Install
Note: When language support files are not available, installer prompts for language support files in the Files Needed screen. Insert operating systems CD in the drive or click Browse and select the i386 folder where the required language support files reside on your computer.
Click OK to install Language Support.
Click Cancel when do not have the operating system CD.
16. On detecting an active Windows firewall on the license server, the installer displays the following message.
17. Click Yes to allow the Tally License Server accept connections from its clients
18. The Setup Status is displayed as shown.
Once the installation process is completed, the Tally License Server & Tally.ERP 9 Installed Successful screen is displayed as shown. 
20. Click Finish to complete the installation process.

Note: The user can click on Continue to proceed with the Installation of Tally.ERP 9 which is shown separately.
